FAUNA
The most obvious and largest of the native fauna is the Dromedary or 1 hump camel, the least well known would be the Hyena which still roams the mountains surrounding St Catherine. Gazelle, Nubian Ibex and the rodent Irsa are still found in the hills or approaching water holes in early evening - though they are rare and not trekker friendly. The petite desert fox, Hasseini, can be heard at night making high pitched yelps as they scavenge close to the campsites for food.

The bird life as well is limited, with coastal and inland species searching for meager rations. Along the coast you are more likely to find the Egret, Falcon, Kite, Crow, Pigeon [which are still tended by the Bedu], Dove, and some Finches. Inland again you find Finches, and the Chukar bird which scurries off warbling when you approach.
